SONG OF SONGS Poetry and Palestrina

The biblical Song of Songs (or Song of Solomon) is perhaps the most famous love poem of all time. It fascinated Palestrina and other Renaissance composers particularly because of its duality - as secular description of the Garden of Love and as sacred allegory of God’s love for Israel, or Christ’s love for the Church.
