Clinician: Kathryn Whitney
...a workshop co-sponsored by Victoria's Newcombe Singers, with the BCCF.
Focus of workshop:
-
Blending voices in a section
-
Improved singing technique through correct breathing and tone support
-
Maintaining good vocal health
Dr. Kathryn Whitney began her studies at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, and, in addition to private singing study in New York City with Cornelius Reid, went on to complete music degrees from the universities of Toronto (BA) and Oxford (MPhil and DPhil), and at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London (PGDip Performance). An experienced mezzo-soprano soloist, her work has taken her across Canada and Europe, and has led to collaboration with many modern composers (she's given over 40 world premieres) and two periods as Artist in Residence: Oxford University (2002-2005) and the Royal Welsh College of Music (2009-2011). Kathryn also has extensive experience as a chorister, having sung in chapel choirs in England for 8 years, and as a teacher of both solo and choral singing. Kathryn currently teaches at the Victoria Conservatory of Music and is also a Singing Fellow at the Institute of Musical Research in London, England, where she runs the SongArt Performance Research Group.
