Choral Stage 2010

A unique opportunity for young singers (ages 8 –16) to immerse themselves in exciting musical activities (theatre games, vocal skills, musicianship and ear training) culminating
in semi-staged choral concerts.

August 9 - 20, Vancouver

The singers will experience a wide range of music including classical, jazz, music theatre and popular selections. Solos and small ensemble work will be encouraged. Singers wishing to do solo work should prepare a short song for audition on the first day.

Faculty

MARISA GAETANNE, M.Mus. (UBC) won the prestigious Eckhardt Gramatte Competition and the Northwest District Metropolitan Opera Auditions after studying in London, New York and Florence. She enjoys a very successful career which blends teaching voice at UBC and in
her own studio, with solo recitals and orchestral engagements such as Mahler’s 8th Symphony, the Chorfest 2000 Brahms Requiem, and many performances of Carmina Burana. In the summer of 2009, Marisa was appointed Music Director of the Vancouver Bach Children's Chorus family of choirs. She has been involved in this program for almost 20 years, conducting mainly the younger singers, and has worked closely with Bruce Pullan, to maintain a high level of both music education and performance. She is always a popular clinician at BCCF Voice Workshops.

CAROL COULSON, attended Dalhousie University and UBC before graduating from the University of Lubin in Polish Folklore and choreography. She performed with the Halifax Theatre Ballet Company and New York City Ballet and developed her career choreographing spectacular events such as the Opening Ceremonies of EXPO 86 and the Papal Visit. She has directed many stage and opera productions including Benjamin Britten’s Noyes Fludde. Carol will work with the children during the second week of Choral Stage.

KIN MING WONG, Accompanist, is a Vancouver based private piano instructor and collaborative artist.He has his Bachelor’s in Piano Performance from UBC as well as a Master’s in Piano Performance from UVic.He also holds FLCM and LLCM performance diplomas from the London College of Music and an ARCT for Piano Performer and Piano Teacher.
